A couple of days after landing his personal best Chub Rother Bailiff Mike Kitchener returned to Shopham and landed this beauty.

The 5lb 4oz fish is the latest specimen to find Kitchy's home made cheese paste irresistible and came just after dark.

Rother Bailiff Mike Kitchener with a new personal best Chub of 5lb 9oz caught from the Shopham Bridge stretch of the Rother.

The specimen fish which couldn't resist Kitchy's own cheese paste came just after dark.

Well done and well deserved Kitchy!

It was a bitterly cold day when Rother Bailiff Mike Kitchener tried his trusty cheese paste out at our Coultershaw stretch of the Rother.

The cold rarely puts the Chub off and the result was this immaculate looking fish weighing in at 4lb 12oz.

Work party stalwart Fred Horne took some time out from swim clearing to fish Coultershaw recently and ended up with this pike.

The double figure fish taken from the top field at Coultershaw was in excellent condition and gave Fred quite a run around before being landed.

Fishery Manager Nelson Keet was on hand to take the picture.

Although the Rother was in full flood the water temperature was surprisingly quite warm when Club Chairman Nigel Chapman opted to fish the river for his last session of 2009.

Nigel was rewarded for his efforts with this hard fighting 12lb 12oz Barbel. The successful bait was hair rigged double 16mm fishmeal boilies fished over a few free offerings.

Nigel has a lot of faith in these boilies especially in coloured water. For a more detailed account in Nigels own words please click HERE

Graeme Winter only recently took up Pike fishing under the guidance of fishing buddy Alex Harris but he's seen the majority of the action since.

During their last session in the Basin of the Chichester Canal, Graeme had three more Pike topped by this new PB of 13lb.

Top angling Graeme, you'll soon be giving fellow anglers a few lessons of your own.

Chris Ryder with a scale perfect Common of 10lb 4oz caught from Bethwins Upper Pond earlier in the year.

Although the Upper Pond is usually associated with Tench, as Chris discovered it also holds a few hard fighting Carp as well.

Whilst fishing with dad Trevor at Hurston Match Pond young Jack Horton landed this lovely Perch

Jack caught it on his very first outing with a pole. He was actually about to land a small roach when the 1lb 10 oz stripey grabbed it and managed to hook itself on the size 16 hook he was using.

Our predictions that Jack would make a fine match angler one day may well come true, but he could also be a budding specimen hunter too.

Well done young man, keep it up!

A change of fishing tactics from his usual trotting for chub resulted in just one lost Barbel for Steve 'The Biking Angler' Warner. But since chatting to our Rother Bailiff - Mike Kitchener, Steve has put some new ideas into practice which have resulted in a PB Barbel of 11lb 2oz (unfortunately only a photo on the unhooking mat) and this little beauty of 4lb 12oz. Both were caught within a few days of each other.

Well done Steve, and top advice as usual from you too Kitch.

After a very prolonged spell of clear low conditions on the Rother Mike Kitchener felt confident that with the increased flow and bit of colour following the recent rain the rivers specimens would be willing to feed.
Apart from this 10lb 4oz Barbel, Mike also had a chub of 4lb 8oz on the leger as well as several dace and some huge Minnows on the float.

Could there be a record Minnow in the Rother then Kitchy?

Terry Thomas is pictured with a mint double figure Common Carp caught at Hurston Lane's Carp Pond. Terry landed the fish on Sunday 30th August using a size 12 hook which he had baited with a secret bait formula he is currently field testing.

Lovely looking fish Terry. - Makes all the effort at the recent work parties at Hurston Lane seem worthwhile.

Mike Kitchener decided to to brave a rather damp day and try the river Arun at Hardham. Using a maggot feeder he managed to take 3 perch all over 1lb with the best being this 2lb 1oz fish, a new pb for Mike.

Mike also had a bream of about 4lb and numerous roach in the same afternoon session. Nice one Kitchy - that's what you call pleasure fishing.

Mick 'Dundee' Pinchbeck, a new convert from sea angling with a nice Tench from Petworth Park taken on his first session into coarse fishing.

Mick also had Bream, Roach and Perch in the same session and reckons he is now well and truly hooked on coarse fishing.

Well done and welcome to some real angling Cobber!

Mike Kitchener got his new season Rother Barbel campaign off to a flying start with this 11lb 5oz beauty.

Well done Kitch - not easy conditions at the moment with the river running low and clear.

Although the Rother has earned a reputation for the number of double figure Barbel caught each season it's reassuring to know there are a number of smaller younger fish coming along to take their place.

Kitch has a had a few of these already this season, the first of which was this 6lb 1oz fish.

The last cast of an evening session resulted in this 5lb 5oz fish.

At 5lb 3oz this is may be the smallest of the Barbel Kitch has had so far this season but it's great to see fish of this size in the Rother.

We'd love to hear from anyone who has had even smaller Barbel too. With your help we can establish how the Barbel are prospering in our stretches of river.

Peter Foster started the new river season the way he ended the last one with yet another specimen Barbel from the Rother. This one tipped the scales at 13lb 5oz.

We knew you wouldn't let us down Peter - fantastic fishing!
