When float fishing running water with a stick or Avon type float your strike will be less effective if your line sinks below the water line as it causes drag and alerts the fish before your strike can be effective.
If you find that your line keeps sinking put some vaseline on a tissue or cloth and run your line through it. Alternatively you can purchase special spray in tackle shops, although this might be more convenient it is no more effective and much dearer to buy!
This will definitely help to keep your line from sinking and give you a faster more effective strike.
