This stretch of the lower Rother contains a good head of Chub and Barbel along with Dace, Perch, Roach, Grayling, Gudgeon, Carp, Bream, Pike, Brown and Rainbow Trout and also has a good run of Sea Trout. The Barbel reach double figures and the Chub have been caught to 5lb 8oz. Like many other stretches of the lower Rother whilst the numbers of smaller fish have declined the average size of the remaining fish have increased greatly with the average size of Chub being over 4lb and the Barbel averaging 7-8lb.

With Carp well into double figure as well, this stretch is earning a reputation as a specimen water with our local anglers. Large static baits account for a lot of the bigger specimens but running a stick float through usually produces a better bag of fish as far as numbers are concerned. Fishing far bank slacks with a pole can also be a deadly method especially when there is a good flow.

The current River Rother Barbel record of 15lb 3oz was caught from this stretch in February 2007. For pictures and a report by the captor please click HERE.
